Hi Folks,
I want to send a word of caution to you. When you run in this type of weather (and really any type of weather) please be very cautious as you run. Tonight, I heard a story about a runner with another Saturday morning group who slipped on some black ice and dislocated his shoulder. I can't emphasize enough about being careful. We want you around for the next run.
Ms Leslie sent me some information about a training group for the Rockford Marathon, organized through Peak Fitness. She wrote: "There are registration forms at Peak and the cost is $80 which includes the race entry fee, a shirt, and a pair of socks. The only formal group run is on Saturday from Peak and members and non-members can use the facility before and after. There will also be refreshments after the run
on Saturdays." If you need more information, I'm sure you can call Peak Fitness. And besides Leslie, I heard from another BG'er who is coaching the Saturday morning group. This for those who may be velocity challenged (er slow) she heads up the walking group.
Marathon notes....This Thursday is a 3 mile run. Don't worry, the length of runs during the week will increase as the training progresses. This Saturday is a 9 mile run. Yeh, they're starting to get longer. In a couple of weeks, we'll be upwards of 12/13. For the inquiry minds, these training distances are based on Hal Higdon's program for beginner marathoners. You are welcome to visit his website for more information.
"Spirit of the Marathon" Movie.....there will be a second showing on February 21st. Are there any folks who are going to the show and want to meet for recovery before the movie? We can meet at Gerry's Pizza at 6:00 pm for dinner and then head over to the theatre. I, for one, want to see the movie again.
If you want to share any ideas for a run, recovery, or race, pass them onto me. We can all use ideas on different running information. Anna sent me a link to a website that might be useful in planning some of the routes for our runs. So, everything is helpful
Thursday, 02.07.08, Meet at Runners Image on East State St. This should be a 3-4 mile run. We'll probably get some hills in. Recovery is at Vinny's in the 500 block of East State St (the old Debbie's Little Italy) (I think Ms Kitty is good friends with the owner.) Meeting time is 6:00 pm.
Saturday, 02.09.08, Meet at Atlanta Bread Company on East State
St. This might be a tricky run because of snow on the Perryville
bikepath. So, we may be running through the neighborhoods and Midway Village. Recovery at Atlanta Bread Company. Meeting time is 7:00 am.
Thursday, 02.14.08. Meet at Old Chicago Pizza on East State for
a quick 4 mile loop around Midway Village. Recovery at Old Chicago.
Meeting time is 6:00 pm.
"Jogging through the forest is pleasant, as is relaxing by the fire with a glass of gentle Bordeaux and discussing one's travel. Racing is another matter. The front-runner's mind is filled with an anguished fearfulness, a panic, which drives into pain."

"A race is a work of art that people can look at and be affected in as many ways as they're capable of understanding."
